Distance—Head to Heart

September 30, 2016

How can the distance between head to heart be narrowed or what makes such distance to be narrowed? What makes the distance between heart to head to get widen? Although there exists a physical distance between head to heart communication, there are also intangible and unseen spaces that exist between both cities, which can be narrowed or widened, depending on the magnitude of perspectives and beliefs which people undertake in life.

In world where the gap between head to heart communication at individual level is getting worse, it is chimera to expect such given aspect of life can be narrowed at society level since it is group of individuals who can make up an entity called society. Although society has no physical head to heart communication as an entity like that individuals do, it has its own unseen head to heart communications which is manifested and reflected in the culture, ideology and beliefs it has built in its own domain.

The purpose of the human heart is to pump blood to the organs and tissues of the body that need the oxygen and nutrients it carries. The heart pumps all day to circulate blood around the body. The heart is made up of 2 pumps. The pump on the right hand side receives blood that has already delivered its oxygen round the body and sends this blood to the lungs to pick up more oxygen.

The primary purpose of a brain is to move around our environment in a meaningful way. In fact, one could even argue that most of the brain is dedicated towards actions. If we consider that the basic building block of the brain is the neuron, then it comes as a surprise to most to find out that the majority of neurons are not in the association cortex where higher thought processes are generated.

According to a research, this has demonstrated that different patterns of heart activity—which accompany different emotional states—have distinct effects on cognitive and emotional function. During stress and negative emotions, when the heart rhythm pattern is erratic and disordered, the corresponding pattern of neural signals traveling from the heart to the brain inhibits higher cognitive functions. This limits our ability to think clearly, remember, learn, reason, and make effective decisions. The heart is input to the brain during stressful or negative emotions also have a profound effect on the brain’s emotional processes—actually serving to reinforce the emotional experience of stress.

Likewise, the function of the head to heart is also connected in unseen manner in which there are certain intangible realities of life that connect both worlds and cities, and such unseen realities of life make them connected or disconnected since one world of life is reflection to the other world of life as there are different layers of existence in life too.

As negative emotions put pressure on the side of the heart in physical terms such bad feelings have an impact on how the head functions and operates since such ill feelings do cause bad thinking and the same is true when there are good or positive feelings that originate in the world of the heart, this has also positive impact on the side of the head since it exerts tremendous energy to think in positive way as well.

One of the profound example in the world of head to heart connection and communication is the desire and ambition that people carry out is the feeling and thinking of change, which is manifested in the power of change. When people are determined to change, there is some kind of stress which people face as result of such move people make in life which is culminated with opposite end as the desired result is come, which is the exhilarating one. And such drive to change has mixed scenario in which dissatisfaction and disappointments is the force that inspires and motivates people to bring about astonishing and tremendous change in their lives and in the life of many others too. It starts from disappointments and ends up in joy and happiness.

The driving motto of that presidential election campaign when President Barrack Obama ran for American presidency was “Change” which was dramatically fulfilled on the night that election time was over, which was addressed in his magnificent victory speech, “tonight, Change is come in America”. However most people did expect on the change he was going to come about after four years without realizing and understanding the meaning and significance of that given election result did deliver, not only to America but also to the entire history of humankind, which was a fulfillment of his own dreams and prophecy, which commenced in the opening of that election process and culminated at the end of that given election day.

In change, and determination to change, the road between head to heart can be narrowed due to the fact that such motivation inspires people to make significant move in harmonizing and integrating transforming thinking and feelings so as to create better world to everyone as they replace every bad and obsolete thinking and feeling with good and modern ones. However, such determination to change should be genuine and honest so that the long awaited and desired outcome can come.

Most of the things that exist in this world is matter of perception and the way people view life and the world as well which depends upon the type of eyeglass they wear, in which few people can see past, present and future in way they can connect dots of the past to the lines of the future where as other cannot even properly see what is on their veranda. And this is something connected to a traditional saying which goes, a stage where angels are frightened to step upon, but the foolish gamble on it.

Heart to Head

September 29, 2016

Business owners who genuinely lead with their heart—not just their head—are also more equipped to connect with the emotional needs of employees. They understand that people have the need to be valued, respected, listened to and involved.

Academicians are people who believe on the power of reason and rational in order to believe on something. Hence, they require proofs and arguments in order to validate something as true. They seek justifications in order to judge on something. They use the power of head than the heart.

Religionists are considered as the people of the heart since they believe in something without seeing. They say, blesses are they who believes without seeing. This does mean that there are things which are truthful since they do not need to be justified as there are certain matters that need the power of faith which voids the power of rational.

Politicians are into the power of reasons since they want to think in systematic manner as they do not believe in anything without even seeing. They believe that things exist as they see, and touch due to the fact that they  have more of pragmatic approach in their thinking and methods and they do not accept anything as true without justifications and they are more into the power of the head than to the heart.

When further process of thinking and analysis is done on the end goals of those people who are into the city of the heart, business people are into money and wealth and religious people are into personal salvations which they think they derive out of the communion to the power of divinity that they assume, God. Both end goals are connected to seeking personal interest and selfish advantages than that of society or the world at large.

While further thinking is applied on the end goals of what those people who reside in the world of the head are considered, academicians are into seeking enlightenment and knowledge which serve their own best interest, but such knowledge can benefit the outsiders or the multitude beyond themselves otherwise it is just nothing; and the politicians are into ambition of seeking power monopoly or ambition to lead over others and they end up in seeking all kinds of authority within the society at large.

Hence, salivation and money are into the city of the hearts where as enlightenment or knowledge and power are into the city of the head. In such cases, it is quite interesting to note that any given individuals seeks all these four basic and fundamental aspects of life to visit in one’s given home since they can make life easier or simpler. Everyone can get whatever things they want in life since they think that these are the most important and useful features and elements of life.

The point is that few people are into salvation; others are into money and wealth; others are into city of enlightenment; others are into ambition or power.  They live fragmented in the life of human society since it is not only possible to have four of them reside in combined and integrated manner in one given individual life. They need quite opposite and contradictory processes and needs in order to have them in one person’s life due to their natural characteristics and processes of life they deliver.

Seeking salvation requires believing without seeing where as the power of knowledge requires believing in things with seeing in which such way of life at least cannot be integrated in one’s life since it is not only possible to have them in one’s life as they are opposite and contradictory too. How come fire and water can live without one ruining the other? How come oil and water can live mixed with each other? Both cannot live together since it is their given nature and character that make them to be in such state and condition of life.

Road—Head to Heart

September 28, 2016

80 years of age is quite something to the existence of an individual since it can be culmination of one’s life on the earth depending on the GDP and life expectancy of any given society to which the individual respectively belongs. However, 80 years can be quite small to formation and existence of any given society span of existence and life since society’s and individual performance in life has different parameters in existence due to the  fact that society is combination of many individuals where ass the individual is just an individual. Hence, they have different ways of formulating and application in making their recipes as to their survival, existence and better performance in life.

In such given interaction of life, there are people who communicate and understand in head to heart realities of life with nicer and smoother way of life as there are people who never communicate with their own realities of life, given head to heart and they live with misunderstanding within their own reality, forget about understanding others. In this given aspect of life, listening to what the head says is a challenge to the heart since both communicate in different aspect and features of life as per their given nature since head has different mechanism and approaches towards life where heart also uses a its own mechanism for its own sake and survival.

Most people say, listen to your heart than to your head in which the human heart is mostly associated to the natural and instinctual feelings and thought that contain more elements of truth than to that of the head since head is mostly connected with reason and rational which is always subjected to err.  Consequently, when people listen to their heart, there is no need to justify for such listening and understanding which they come about as result of their given personal exposures in their given life although they are asked to justify anything they come about as result of the power of reason since it is assumed that there is some kind of rational behind any given thing they have come about from their given head.

Head to heart has both physical and emotional or psychological spaces in which one is seen and the other is unseen, and such space can be integrated and filled out, not only by the pumping of blood, but also by harmonious and coordinated interaction and communication of thinking and feelings too. When such physical and non-physical interactions and communications between head to heart is nicely done, life becomes smooth and things will be in safe manner. Otherwise, as the opposite is on stage, life will always be struggling and things will not be simple to undertake.

Both materials and non materials aspects of life are important to coordinate and harmonize the movement and interactions between head to heart since they are imperative and useful elements of life. But, the point is to maintain the right balance so as to derive the harmony which can create to melodious life style than that of the noise. Head is about thinking where as heart is about feelings. Thinking and feelings are part of human reality and nature and they have their own truthful elements of life. There are certain truths that are derived by thinking and as there are certain truths which are governed by feelings too. There are also certain truths that are derived out of combination and harmonious interactions of both thinking and feelings too.

The road from heart to head is wide and narrow, in which the same is also true from society’s head to society’s heart, which can be narrowed depending on the harmony and integration process individuals make in their process of life since both head and heart are communicating based on thoughts and feeling in which there are time what the head says cannot be accepted by the heart since heart is in cases slow in most cases interaction and communication that it makes with the head and with what the head dictate, and such conflict and contradiction in such given aspect of the human life is customary to any given individuals’ and society’s existence of life at universal basis.

In society where the road to heart has big gap and is wider, it is challenging task to individuals to derive their given head to heart communications to go smoother since the bigger circle is in chaos. Although, individuals can create their own balance within their own given setting, as far as the outer and bigger circle is under chaos, their given individual and other mini-circles are also affected and disturbed by the imbalance and chaos of the outer bigger circle as well.  Though, there are claims that are going in most societies that are trying to develop their own life standards and way of life while living within such chaotic world and society, such claim is their own their own ego-centered and self-centered outlook in which such claim is just mere claim that can satisfy their own personal which cannot escape from being an outburst of their given ignorant emotions and thinking which is derived out of denying the whole and general truth.

Accordingly, there are individuals, societies and institutions that have wider gap in their communication from head to heart in which such interaction and communication is noticed and observed in what is outwardly communicated and expressed actions and reactions they make in life. When people and societies are from and into the heart, it is more of emotions. When society and people are into the mind, they are about into rational and thinking. Hence, when head to heart communication gets closer is done when the power of reason is in harmony with the power of emotions too.

Emotions are spontaneous feelings that come to happen as result and reaction to certain actions which individuals, societies and institutions face in life. And the way any given individual, society and institution react to any given incident in life could be similar since the nature of emotions cannot change as result of the actions which any given incident hit in one’s life. For example, when any individual, society, or institutions is hurt or damaged by any other party, anger comes out. They could differ on how they reflect and handle such anger since it depends on the maturity and experiences on how any give individual or society or institutions handle that given anger.

The war between head to heart is historical one which is inherited from past which vary as per the nature and character of individuals and societies. The peace between head and heart is also historical one which generations inherit from past way of life. In such peace and war situations and conditions of the human affairs and life, the world is shaped by different ideologies and thinking and feelings and emotions that put the world we live now under such shape and way of life. The point in here is that, are such ideologies and beliefs helpful to narrow the gap between head to heart is till question left unanswered as there are conflicts and contradictions going on, the gap between head to heart is getting wider.

In world and societies where the road between head to heart is getting wide at any given individual level and most individuals have such wider gap which is reflected in their given daily undertaking—confusions and contradictions are the becoming natural characteristics of their life—it is chimera to expect that such given space can be narrowed down at society and institutional levels, due to the fact that both societies and institutions should work hard in order to narrow such gaps at individual level. Such wider in gap  individual level is at least a reflection and an indicator that societies and institutions are not working hard to narrow the gap that individuals have while discharging their given undertakings too.

The point about life is not only narrowing the gap that exist between head to heart, not by suppressing those challenges that can widen such gap, but it is about diminishing them forever thru providing necessary and lasting solutions to those challenges that can widen such gaps, not only by new and different ideologies and beliefs but also by observable and noticed deeds that can ably culminate such oppressions between both cities of life, the city of the head and the city of the hearts too. Any given thinking can be overcome by another thinking and any given feeling can be overcome by another feelings too. In such process of overcoming thinking and feeling, both can meet at the juncture where  they can be integrated and harmonized well so that nicely orchestrated melody of life can be on stage within such process of life.

Poverty—Money or Mentality

September 23, 2016

In his book of to End Poverty, Jeffrey Sachs, stated that … the case of Africa. Africa needs around $30 billion per year in aid in order to escape from poverty. But if we actually gave that aid, where would it go? Right down the drain if the past is any guide. Sad to say, Africa’s education levels are so low that even programs that work elsewhere would fail in Africa. Africa is corrupt and riddled with authoritarianism. It lacks modern values and the institutions of a free market economy needed to achieve success.

Aliko Dangote Africa’s richest man, has disclosed that he plans to buy English Premier League team, Arsenal, within the next four years – a bid that could make him the first African owner of a Premier League club if successful. The Nigerian billionaire reportedly made the disclosure on Wednesday during a television interview in New York but said that he is not in a position to acquire Arsenal now because his finances are committed towards completing more than $20 billion worth of infrastructure projects, including the construction of a refinery.

Over $500 billion (U.S.) has been sent to African nations in the form of direct aid. The consensus is that the money has had little long-term effect. In addition, most African nations have owed substantial sums of money. However, a large percentage of the money was either invested in weapons (money that was spent back in developed nations and provided little or no benefit to the native population) or was directly misappropriated by corrupt governments.

Reading an excerpt from Dambisa Moyo’s, ‘Dead Aid: Why Aid Is Not Working and How, there Is a Better Way for Africa. Paternalism towards Africans today is remarkably like late colonial attitudes towards Africa, after it had dropped some of the more racist… there are, sadly, common ties that bind sub-Saharan African countries together. Well-publicized are the degree of poverty, the extent of corruption, the incidence of disease, the dearth of infrastructure, the erratic (but mainly poor) economic showing, political instability, and the historical propensity for violent unrest and even civil war. These are universal themes shared, albeit in varying degrees, across most nations of the African continent.

To end extreme poverty worldwide in 20 years, chief economists, Jeffrey Sachs, calculated that the total cost per year would be about $175 billion. This represents less than one percent of the combined income of the richest countries in the world. The military budget in the USA is about $680 billion per year. A large amount of other funding is directly connected to military spending in the states, bringing the total closer to $1 trillion per year. The amount required in the above to end poverty is 26% of the total budget of the US military.

And what does $175 billion dollar mean in this world?

  • On Friday, asteroid 2012 DA14 will pass within 17,200 (27,700km) of Earth. DA14 is about 50 meters wide, and will be the closest ever fly-by of a celestial body that astronomers have known about in advance — at a distance of 17,200 miles, DA14 will actually travel inside the orbit of Earth’s geosynchronous satellites. If that wasn’t thrilling enough, though, celestial mining company Deep Space Industries is saying that the asteroid, if we were to harvest its resources, may contain nearly $200 billion of minerals and water.
  • The first three richest people wealth accumulation sum up to USD 202.5 billion dollar.
  • Volatile stock markets, cratering oil prices and a stronger dollar led to a dynamic reshuffling of wealth around the globe and a drop in ten-figure fortunes for the first time since 2009. For our 30th annual guide to the world’s richest, we found 1,810 billionaires, down from a record 1,826 a year ago. Their aggregate net worth was $6.48 trillion, $570 billion less than last year. (Source: Forbes magazine). This is 0.003% of what they have.

The point about ending poverty is not about giving money from the accounts and pockets of the rich to the poor, but rather changing and shifting the minds and thinking machinery of the state of being in poor conditions of life to the world and realm of richness. It is paradigm shift that is required in every citizen way of thinking and way of life along with their given respective leaders. This is one of the significant matters that should be noted and addressed in which money cannot solve the problems of poor nations and societies; but rather it is the shift in mentality and thinking, which is important and useful aspect of their given life.

Ending poverty is within reach. There is nothing unreachable. The point is about commitment and determination not only with leaders of every walk of life in the world, but also with unshakable will and choices of every individual and citizen of the world at large do make.  It is not only matter of time, but it is matter of devotion and sacrifice which people make in every walks of life.  The higher level of devotion and commitment, the lesser time it takes to abolish poverty as the other way round is also true. Poverty in here is not only about material aspect of economic, but also in terms of other human features and realities of life as well.

Experts identify for causes of poverty in poor nations besides political and economic strategies they employ such as:-

  • Mismanaging of land
  • Misused money
  • Lack of adequate human resources and its management
  • Diseases
  • Lack of infrastructures
  • Conflicts
  • Climate change
  • Other effects of poverty

In his January 1964 State of the Union address, President Lyndon Johnson proclaimed, “This administration today, here and now, declares unconditional war on poverty in America.” In the 50 years since that time, U.S. taxpayers have spent over $22 trillion on anti-poverty programs. Adjusted for inflation, this spending (which does not include Social Security or Medicare) is three times the cost of all U.S. military wars since the American Revolution. Yet progress against poverty, as measured by the U.S. Census Bureau, has been minimal, and in terms of President Johnson’s main goal of reducing the “causes” rather than the mere “consequences” of poverty, the War on Poverty has failed completely. In fact, a significant portion of the population is now less capable of self-sufficiency than it was when the War on Poverty began.

They say, the eyes are useless while the mind is blind, and the ears are futile while the mind is deaf!!

The Hoax

September 22, 2016

A hoax is a deliberately fabricated falsehood made to masquerade as truth. It is distinguishable from errors in observation or judgment, or rumors, urban legends, pseudo sciences or April Fools’ Day events that are passed along in good faith by believers or as jokes.

A hoax is often intended as a practical joke or to cause embarrassment, or to provoke social or political change by raising people’s awareness of something. It can also emerge from a marketing or advertising purpose. For example, to market a romantic comedy movie, a director staged a phony “incident” during a supposed wedding, which showed a bride and preacher getting knocked into a pool by a clumsy fall from a best man. A resulting video clip of Chloe and Keith’s Wedding was uploaded to YouTube and was viewed by over 30 million people and the couple was interviewed by numerous talk shows. Viewers were deluded into thinking that it was an authentic clip of a real accident at a real wedding; but a story in USA Today in 2009 revealed it was a hoax.

Governments sometimes spread false information to assist them with aims such as going to war; the “Iraq dossier” is an example of this; these often come under the heading of black propaganda. There is often a mixture of outright hoax and suppression and management of information to give the desired impression. In wartime and times of international tension rumours abound, some of which may be deliberate hoaxes.

Examples of politics-related hoaxes:

  • Belgium is a country with a Flemish-speaking region and a French-speaking region. In 2006 French-speaking television channel RTBF interrupted programming with a spoof report claiming that the country had split in two and the royal family had fled.
  • On Saturday 13 March 2010 the Imedi television station in Georgia broadcast a false announcement that Russia had invaded Georgia

Hoaxes vary widely in their processes of creation, propagation, and entrenchment over time. For example, :

  • Academic hoaxes
  • Religious hoaxes
  • Hoaxes perpetrated on occasions when their initiation is considered socially appropriate, such as April Fools’ Day
  • Anthropologists were taken in by the “Piltdown Man discovery” that was widely believed from 1913 to 1953
  • Apocryphal claims that originate as a hoax gain widespread belief among members of a culture or organization, become entrenched as persons who believe it repeat it in good faith to others, and continue to command that belief after the hoax’s originators have died or departed
  • Hoaxes formed by making minor or gradually increasing changes to a warning or other claim widely circulated for legitimate purposes
  • Hoaxes perpetrated by “scare tactics” appealing to the audience’s subjectively rational belief that the expected cost of not believing the hoax (the cost if its assertions are true times the likelihood of their truth) outweighs the expected cost of believing the hoax (cost if false times likelihood of falsity), such as claims that a non-malicious but unfamiliar program on one’s computer is malware
  • Some urban legends and rumors with a probable conscious attempt to deceive
  • Humbugs
  • Computer virus hoaxes became widespread as viruses themselves began to spread. A typical hoax is an email message warning recipients of a non-existent threat, usually forging quotes supposedly from authorities such as Microsoft and IBM. In most cases the payload is an exhortation to distribute the message to everyone in the recipient’s address book. Thus the e-mail “warning” is itself the “virus”. Sometimes the hoax is more harmful, e.g., telling the recipient to seek a particular file(usually in a Microsoft Windows operating system); if the file is found, the computer is deemed to be infected unless it is deleted. In reality the file is one required by the operating system for correct functioning of the computer.
  • Internet hoaxes became more common after the start of social media. Some websites have been used to hoax millions of people on the Web.
  • A hoax of exposure s a semi-comical or private sting operation. It usually encourages people to act foolishly or credulously by falling for patent nonsense that the hoaxer deliberately presents as reality. A related activity is culture jamming.
  • Art-world hoaxes:
    • The “Bruno Hat” art hoax arranged in London in July 1929 involved staging a convincing public exhibition of paintings by an imaginary reclusive artist, Bruno Hat. All the perpetrators were well-educated and did not intend a fraud, as the newspapers were informed the next day.
    • Nat Tate: An American Artist 1928-1960: a 1998 art world hoax, by William Boyd
    • Disumbrationism : a modern art hoax
    • Pierre Brassau: exposing art critics to “modern paintings” made by a chimpanzee
    • Spectra: A Book of Poetic Experiments: a modernist poetry hoax

Media Manipulation

September 21, 2016

(Source: Wikipedia)

Media manipulation is a series of related techniques in which partisans create an image or argument that favors their particular interests. Such tactics may include the use of logical fallacies and propaganda techniques, and often involve the suppression of information or points of view by crowding them out, by inducing other people or groups of people to stop listening to certain arguments, or by simply diverting attention elsewhere.

Activism is the practice or doctrine that has an emphasis on direct vigorous action especially supporting or opposing one side of a controversial matter. It is quite simply starting a movement to effect or change social views. It is frequently started by influential individuals but is done collectively through social movements with large masses. These social movements can be done through public rallies, strikes, street marches and even rants on social media.

A large social movement that has changed public opinion through time would be the ‘Civil Rights March on Washington’, where Martin Luther King Jr. performed his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech attempting to change social views on African Americans in the United States of America, 28 August 1963. Most of King’s movements were done through non-violence rallies and public speeches to show the white American population that they were peaceful but also wanted change in their community. In 1964, the ‘Civil Rights Acts’ commenced giving African Americans equality with all races.

Advertising is the action of attracting public attention to something, especially through paid announcements for products and services. This tends to be done by businesses who wish to sell their product by paying social media outlets to show their products or services on television breaks, banners on websites and mobile applications.

A hoax is something intended to deceive or defraud. When a newspaper or the news reports a fake story, it is known as a hoax. Misleading public stunts, scientific frauds, false bomb threats and business scams as hoaxes. A common aspect that hoaxes have is that they are all meant to deceive or lie. For something to become a hoax, the lie must have something more to offer. It must be outrageous, dramatic but also has to be believable and ingenious. Above all, it must be able to attract attention from the public. Once it has done that then a hoax is in full effect.

Propagandising is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position by presenting only one side of an argument. Propaganda is commonly created by governments, but some forms of mass-communication created by other powerful organisations can be considered propaganda as well. As opposed to impartially providing information, propaganda, in its most basic sense, presents information primarily to influence an audience. Propaganda is usually repeated and dispersed over a wide variety of media in order to create the chosen result in audience attitudes.

Psychological warfare is sometimes considered synonymous with propaganda. The principal distinction being that propaganda normally occurs within a nation, whereas psychological warfare normally takes place between nations, often during war or cold war. Various techniques are used to influence a target’s values, beliefs, emotions, motives, reasoning, or behavior. Target audiences can be governments, organizations, groups, and individuals.

Public relations (PR) is the management of the flow of information between an individual or an organization and the public. Public relations may include an organization or individual gaining exposure to their audiences using topics of public interest and news items that do not require direct payment. PR is generally created by specialised individuals or firms at the behest of already public individuals or organizations, as a way of managing their public profile.

According to an article posted on Web Magazine, Activist Post, by Sigmund Fraud, dated march 1, 2014, entitled, Is Everything in the Mainstream Media Fake?, here are  6 examples of Media manipulations.

  1. Time Magazine sanitizes their covers for American consumption

Time Magazine is considered a leader in national news, yet they consistently portray a dumbed-down, frivolous image of life in America while presenting an entirely different message to the rest of the world. In the two examples below, their magazine covers feature a different cover story for Americans while sending different messages to the rest of the world.

2. CNN is the leader in fake war new coverage

Here are just 2 examples of how CNN has scripted and staged live war coverage to create a sense of drama and danger around people who were not in harm’s way. Anderson Cooper fakes Syria war footage by dubbing in sound effects and playing chaotic video next to a Syrian correspondent. In the video you can see how in one tape the correspondent is in a safe environment, then you see the footage aired by CNN with dubbed in theatrical effects.

Manufactured ‘Reality’ TV

3. The Biggest Loser

Americans should by now already know that ‘reality shows’ are staged. The popular TV show, Biggest Loser, where overweight people compete to lose the most weight for the entertainment benefit of the rest of the world, lies about the circumstances of the training and weighing regimen of their contestants while using underhanded methods to generate phony emotional responses from their contestants.

4. Nationally scripted local ‘news’

The comedian and talk show host Conan O’Brien has done a service for America by compiling overtly ridiculous cases of local ‘news’ broadcasts that were simultaneously repeated verbatim in dozens of markets nationwide. This is proof that you simply cannot trust the authenticity of what you are seeing on news broadcasts. Watch these stunning and blatant examples of this in the following videos:

Digital Image Manipulation is Ubiquitous in the Media

5. Manipulating Images as War Propaganda

There are many examples of how newspapers around the world photoshop images of war in order to influence public opinion. All sides in a conflict will do this as propaganda, so it is important to remember this when consuming news on international conflicts and to be alert for phonies. The images below of the recent conflict in Syria show how easily images are manipulated for the purposes of propaganda:

6. Advertising Industry ‘Touches Up’ Images of People

The practice of digitally ‘touching up’ actors and models in images and videos is an overt industry standard. Yet most people, whether they’re aware of image manipulation or not, still process television and print images on the sub-conscious level as if they were, primarily because everyone is doing it, and our bias for ‘normal’ has been socially reconstructed to adopt advertising lies as normal.

Character Assassination

September 20, 2016

Character assassination is a deliberate and sustained process that aims to destroy the credibility and reputation of a person, institution, social group, or nation. Agents of character assassinations employ a mix of open and covert methods to achieve their goals, such as raising false accusations, planting and fostering rumors, and manipulating information. Character assassination is an attempt to tarnish a person’s reputation. It may involve exaggeration, misleading half-truths, or manipulation of facts to present an untrue picture of the targeted person. It is a form of defamation and can be a form of ad hominem argument.

According to a research, most people use the following methods in order to attach powerful and dynamic individuals who outshine others otherwise such given assassinations could not happen to their reality. Since they do something more profound than other people, they become victim of character assassinations.

Attack the person, showing them to be bad and unworthy. Any of the ‘four Ds’ below may be used (as well as additional methods):

  • Discreditthem, showing their arguments and decisions are weak and they are incapable in their work.
  • Usedefamation, damaging the good reputation and name of others.
  • Demonizethem, turning them into bad people that everyone hates, such that anything they do will be considered bad.
  • Dehumanizethem, treating them as a ‘thing’ and framing them as non-human with negligible values.

According to Ryan Pannell, Chief Investment Officer, Synergis Capital Management, in his article entitled, How to Survive a Character Assassination

If you are a dynamic, successful individual, a born leader, highly charismatic, popular, attractive, or all of these things, then at some point you are guaranteed to be the target of character assassination. These people are:-

The Jealous

You used to be their friend/co-worker, and now it looks like you’re moving on socially or professionally. They don’t want to be left behind, and so rather than let you go, this idiot is going to try to wreck the place you’re going to before you get settled in.

The Angry

Help Desk Supervisors. Just kidding; no, these folks are pissed off at you because you remind them of where they are in the world. Or rather, where they aren’t. They’re frustrated actors/musicians/writers who are stuck paying the bills doing some job they hate which is unrelated to their passion (probably because they aren’t any good at what that is). Don’t pay much attention to these people, as 1) they’re pretty much angry at everyone equally, and 2) they won’t have much ammunition to throw at you because they’re too busy being angry all the time, at everyone.

The Devious

These are the most dangerous of the types of people who will try to wreck your character, most of all because they’re usually sociopaths. These people don’t hate you, these people see the destruction or damage of your character as a means to an end in realizing their own goals. They usually have no conscience or sense of remorse, nor do they care what happens to you after they’ve destroyed you.

The Envious

This one here’s usually at the root of nearly all character assassinations, and the one I’ll spend the most time on. What happens to the envious is that you (or whatever it is that you’ve done to piss them off) acts like a giant mirror, reflecting back their own perceived inadequacies and lame excuses for not getting on with their lives.

The Solution:

Don’t fight back. At least, don’t lower yourself to use the tools the would-be character assassin has in arguably lowered themselves by using. The best defence against any character assassination is to maintain your integrity and take pride in what you do, whatever that may be. Fighting back just feeds the fire, and clouds the issue.
