A city is a large and permanent human settlement. Although there is no agreement on how a city is distinguished from a town in general English language meanings, many cities have a particular administrative, legal, or historical status based on local law. Cities generally have complex systems for sanitation, utilities, land usage, housing, and transportation. The concentration of development greatly facilitates interaction between people and businesses, sometimes benefiting both parties in the process, but it also presents challenges to managing urban growth.
What makes any given city a city is its organized and systematized way of life in which city has its own way of thinking and addressing its own aspects and issues as per the context, nature and character of its adherents. Hence, people expect a city to be a very nice place to live not only in terms of satisfying physical and material needs and standards but also addressing psychological, emotional and intellectual needs and standards too. Hence, one is proud to be in any city since one thinks like a denizen of city, which is modern and civilized mindset and way of thinking and life too.
Modern cities are known for creating their own micro climates. This is due to the large clustering of heat absorbent surfaces that heat up in sunlight and that channel rainwater into underground ducts. Waste and sewage are two major problems for cities, as is air pollution from various forms of combustion, including fireplaces, wood or coal-burning stoves, other heating systems and internal combustion engines. The impact of cities on places elsewhere, be it hinterlands or places far away, is considered in the notion of city foot printing (ecological footprint). Other negative external effects include health consequences such as communicable diseases, crime, and high traffic and commuting times.
Cities cause more interaction with more people than rural areas, thus a higher probability to contracting contagious diseases. However, many inventions such as inoculations, vaccines, and water filtration systems have also lowered health concerns. Crime is also a concern in the cities. Studies have shown that crime rates in cities are higher and the chance of punishment after getting caught is lower. In cases such as burglary, the higher concentration of people in cities create more items of higher value worth the risk of crime. The high concentration of people also makes using auto mobiles inconvenient and pedestrian traffic is more prominent in metropolitan areas than a rural or suburban one.
Cities also generate positive external effects. The close physical proximity facilitates knowledge spillovers, helping people and firms exchange information and generate new ideas. A thicker labor market allows for better skill matching between firms and individuals. Population density enables also sharing of common infrastructure and production facilities, however in very dense cities, increased crowding and waiting times may lead to some negative effects.
It is quite interesting to see and observe city in state of chaos and confusion not only in term so thinking and way of life of its adherents but also in its architectural buildings, road set up and management along with the movements of vehicles moving on. Beyond such given aspects there are certain cities that are disorganized and non-systematic in their undertakings in which facilities and utilities they have is non-proportional to the number of population it contains and such cities live in state of imbalance.
While the drive and motive behind organizing any given city in state of balance in systematic and organized way is going on, one wonders as to the state of confusions and contradiction such cities acquire as result of mismanagement and maladministration in which any given cit could be found in state of non-city mindset due to the fact that no harmony and beauty is observed in its organization , administration, settings of building complex, road management, housing faculties and lack of all other components and elements of city.
Any given city could be told by just looking at the way and fashion of the building complexes it has erected in its domain, one could say, on how such decisions and managements are carried out. In fact, there are cities who look like to the extent the mayor of such cities have decided in the erection of such building like on those fantasy moments of sex, or one is drunk in grocery or bar, since the way buildings are erected have no harmony, organization and beauty too.
Such cities look as they have no mayor or responsible person or body since anyone can build a city like that which they lack appropriate standards and beauty as they should have orchestrated while living and recognized as city. The harmony of building complexes and facilities not only in terms of color and height but also in terms of architectural and environmental synchronization make any given city to look as magnificent or not and the way such cities are organized and managed do have an effect on how their respective denizens think and discuss about due to the fact that any given city is a reflection of its denizens way of life and thinking too.
When population increases, the number of facilities should increase in direct proportional manner, not as they are inversely related. When facilities do remain stagnant as the number of population increases, many kinds of suffocation and related epidemic diseases are caused and such city will be unsafe to live not only in terms of lack of facilities but also due to heath reasons and factors. Proportionating population along with the number of facilities is in balance, the integrity of such city is kept safe and secure.
As population increases, another consequence of such increase is the drama of unemployment, which do create dissatisfaction and disappointment to many segment of society that become disadvantageous due to the fact that they lack daily income and means of subsistence. Such way of life—the no food and no income situation of life—do lead to the creation of gangsters and other bad groups that kill the joy of others that do have income and food. In such case, strengthening police force is one good job a city undertakes along with creating numerous job opportunities to the mass.
Cities may have a positive influence on the environment. City living can be the best solution for dealing with the rising population numbers and thus still be a good approach on dealing with overpopulation. This is because cities concentrate human activity into one place, making the environmental damage on other places smaller. However, this can be achieved only if urban planning is improved and if city services are properly maintained
The notion of cities is rooted in the concentration of power and capabilities within all cities. The city is seen as a container where skills and resources are concentrated: the better able a city is to concentrate its skills and resources, the more successful and powerful the city. This makes the city itself more powerful in the sense that it can influence what is happening around. Cities in today have become the source of inventions and discoveries in which human needs are addressed in scientific problem, human challenges and problems are solved in scientific way and this happen due to the way cities have been fashioned and designed in these very days.
